Breaking Barriers; Harvesting Dreams

In Adamawa state, young women are breaking barriers and unlocking the much potentials in the girl-child for achieving sustainable business growth through effective mentorship and coaching with hands-on skills acquisition.

Despite the societal stigma against women engaging in tool fabrication, Suraiya holds her ground and never yielded to pressure to back out and now she serves as an inspiration to other young women in her community.

After completing her 6 months intensive training under a mentor in the art of fabrication, Suraiya Alhassan a 20-year participant of WFP’s YiW Project from Rumde in Adamawa is excited to share her achievements as she now can fabricate hoes, cutlasses and pans among others.

From this skill, Suraiya is now able to assist in meeting household needs and plans to open her own fabrication center and continue inspire and train young women like her.
