Just a few years ago, Ummukalma began her journey of processing as a business in order to support herself and family. She struggled with low sales and patronage even within her immediate community.
Today, everything looks positively different. Thanks to WFP’s Youth in Work Project with support from Mastercard Foundation where Ummukalma was trained on business marketing and better ways to package her product.
“My market and sales has improved unlike before and I now support myself and family because my business has grown” – Ummukalma mentioned.
Those days of slow patronage are over. “I have my contact labelled on my pack so it is easier for people to even call from Yola and we send the awara to them from here in Numan”, Ummukalma further explains.
With this business growth, Ummukalma is now able to meet some of her needs and even support her family as she expresses her joy over the Youth in Work Project being a game changer for her.
